FMRAC 2024 Annual Meetings Overview

The Federation of Medical Regulatory Authorities of Canada (FMRAC) 2024 Annual Meetings were held in Muskoka, Ontario from June 11th to 13th, 2024. This year’s conference focused on providing a platform for Canada’s medical regulatory authorities and affiliated organizations to share experiences and strategies for navigating the current healthcare landscape.

The conference agenda included a mix of closed meetings for specific member groups and open sessions for all attendees. Here are some highlights of the open sessions:

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Marvin Washington, a renowned expert on leadership and organizational change, delivered the keynote address titled “Leading in a VUCA World.” Dr. Washington’s presentation focused on the concept of VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous) environments and how leaders can adapt their strategies for success in these conditions.

Panel Discussion on Artificial Intelligence (AI): This session explored the implications of AI for medical regulation, such as its potential to improve healthcare delivery or the ethical considerations surrounding its use.

Panel Discussion on Truth and Reconciliation: This session addressed the ongoing process of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples in Canada, with a focus on its relevance to healthcare regulation and ensuring equitable access and outcomes in healthcare.

World Cafe: This interactive session used a facilitated group discussion format to explore pre-identified topics and questions relevant to medical regulation. Participants rotated between topics, fostering a diverse exchange of perspectives. A report will be created from these insights to help direct future work.
