1. Growing Canada’s Physician Workforce
Canada faces a critical shortage of physicians. FMRAC calls for expanding residency spots for Canadian and international medical graduates, alongside stronger supports for internationally trained physicians. By improving pathways to licensure and increasing investment in Practice Readiness Assessments and onboarding programs, we can grow and sustain the physician workforce Canadians need.
2. Improving Physician Mobility
FMRAC is supporting efforts to reduce barriers to physician mobility across provinces and territories. Building on the success of the Atlantic Registry, we are working toward a federated licensure model that makes it easier for physicians to practice in multiple jurisdictions, while maintaining public safety and regulatory accountability. Enhanced mobility would reduce administrative burdens, improve efficiency, and expand access to care, especially in rural and remote communities.
3. Partnering with Government
As the national voice of medical regulation,FMRAC collaborates closely with the federal government. By working together, we can unlock practical solutions that grow the physician workforce, enable mobility, and ensure that Canadians across the country have timely access to safe, high-quality medical care.
